Upcoming Adventure Races

After last year’s sell out success the ROAR Adventure Race is coming back to Achill this September.

This event in 2009 was the first of Ireland’s one day adventure races to offer the option of an entry level to sports and the more extreme challenge of the expert course.

The expert course is either a 1000m swim or 3000m kayak in Keel Lough followed by a 15km beach and mountain run taking in the summit of Minaun (662m) and then a 45km cycle including the famous Atlantic Drive costal route.

The distances for the sport option are approximately half that for the expert course but with significantly less climb on both the run and bike legs and so are achievable for the novice and elite alike.

The Achill event is set to attract the top adventure racers and Triathletes in the country as it is one of the events in the MSAI National Adventure Race Series.

Confirmed attendees include last year’s winner and 2010 Gaelforce winner and 2011 runner-up Padraig Marrey from Ballinrobe and 4 time Gaelforce Winner Peter of Farrell Dublin who won the Achill Roar in 2009 along with a host of others looking to topple the two big guns if they are not on top form.

The top two ladies from Gaelforce Emma Donlon Roscommon and Mary Mulchrone Westport who are winning all round them this year will again renew rivalry in Achill and in the Sport course the current National Series favorites Noel Brady Westport and Marie Boyle Spiddel will also take on all challengers.

With spectacular scenery, an away from it all setting and not to mention the best post race party of the year ,this year’s event is set to be another spectacular success.
