Race Around Ireland 2010
Race Around Ireland 2010, which is widely recognised as Europe’s toughest endurance cycling race, is now calling for solo and team entrants for this adventure of a lifetime.
Taking place in September 2010, amateur cyclists will get the chance to take to the starting line with internationally renowned elite cyclists as well as experience the stunning beauty of Ireland as they cycle a 2,100km route around Ireland over the course of a week.
But don’t despair……you don’t have to do this alone! As well as accepting entries from solo riders, Race Around Ireland 2010 is also encouraging groups of up to eight people (where each person will spend approximately three hours a day cycling) to take part. So, whether you are an elite rider or a leisure cyclist, there is a category that is perfect for you.
The course route will take you on an adventure from Navan in Co. Meath, past Newgrange, north to The Giants Causeway, Malin head, down along the west coast by The Cliffs of Moher, through The Ring of Kerry, past Mizen Head, up the east coast through the stunning scenery of Wicklow, the Garden of Ireland, and back to your starting point in Navan.
Each participant (solo and team cyclists) are encouraged to provide their own support crew and vehicles, so why not get a group of your friends or work colleagues on board and hit the road for a unique and fun adventure to see our beautiful country like you’ve never seen it before! Each cyclists / team’s crew are responsible for providing food, bicycle repair, massage, and navigation and crewing for the cyclists, this is as much of a challenge as riding itself.
Alan Heary, Race Director of Race Around Ireland, says;
“Almost 70 cyclists took part in last year’s inaugural Race Around Ireland. The entire event was a huge success not just amongst the cycling elite but for all the amateur cyclists who took on this amazing challenge and really made the event special. This year we are going to be offering amateur training clubs to all participants who would like extra support in the lead up the event. From crew to cyclist, every participant is a winner and their sense of achievement after completing the internationally renowned course will be immense.”
Registration costs €300 for solo entry, €1,100 for a four person team and €2,000 for an eight person team.
