Polka Dot challenge to attract cyclists to Mayo and Galway hills

Cyclists who like to tackle the hills will be attracted to the Western Lakes Polka Dot Challenge on Sunday, September 9th, starting and finishing in Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo.

The Polka Dot Challenge will feature six hills and a total of 2000 metres of climbing during the 75-mile spin.

“It’s a challenge, but for most leisure cyclists it is still attainable. And we have an option of cutting out one of the bigger climbs on the day for those who feel they might struggle,” said organiser Fergal O’Neill, Western Lakes CC.

Sign-on takes place at the Western Lakes Cycling Centre at 8o’c on the morning of September 9th, and the cyclists will travel through Ballinrobe, Carnacon, Ballintubber, Killawalla, Tourmakeady, Killateeaun, Maam, Cornamona, Cloughbrack, Clonbur and finish in Ballinrobe.

The climbs are: Lally’s Hill, Maamtrasna, Ail Dubh, Maimim, Tiernea Hill, and Cloughbrack.
