The Tri Lakes Triathlon club will officially be launched on Wednesday the 19th of May at Kilbeg pier just outside Headford. The club was formed in December 2009, and with the summer fast approaching its now time to get outdoors.
To kick start the club an open water swim will be held on the shores of Lough Corrib, swimming from Kilbeg pier (Headford) to Knockferry pier (Oughterard side), the distance one way is 500m or kilometer for round trip..
Carrying on from last year where a group swam the width of Lough Mask (7k), this venture of swimming from one side of Lough Corrib to the other is considerably shorter.
This swim can be done by most competent swimmers, the only requirement is to wear a wetsuit, swim hat and goggles.
There will be plenty of safety boats and kayakers around to help and guide swimmers.
It is sure to be a great occasion as the club comprises of members from South Mayo to all of North Galway.
Tea and refreshments will be served afterwards at the pub at Kilbeg pier.
