A group led by Padraig Marrey and Steve Mc Manamon climbed Ireland’s 4 highest peaks over 2 days.
Day 1 the 17 person group scaled the beautiful circuit of the Coomloughra Horse shoe, which is part of the Macgillycuddy reeks Range in Kerry.
This circuit is regarded as Ireland’s finest horse shoe walk, with its narrow ridges giving a real since of danger and the trill of knowing that your on top of the 3 highest peaks in the country, Beenkeragh (1010m), Carrauntuohill (1039m) and Cahir (1001m). making it a walk to remember.
Each of the summits had a scattering of snow and was chilled by a hard frost.
The views were spectacular, with sites of mountain lakes and crevices below
The 13k walk took a briskly 5.5hrs
Mt Brandon(954m)
Day 2 saw the group travel West from Tralee to Mt Brandon, rather than take the easy route or (Tourist route as known locally), we headed for the more adventurous route which took in dangerous technically ridges, one mistake here and it was “curtains” as the drop was sheer and unforgiving.
This walk took the group a little under 4hrs to complete, the low cloud made the views near impossible to see but it was still a very enjoyable walk.
