Best Wishes to Olympian

www.marreytrainingsystems.com wishes David O Loughlin from Cong and who races with the professional Pezula racing team the very best of luck at the Beijing Olympics

Story of David’s achievement

In a scene similar to what the Jamaican bobsleigh team did, Dave has achieved a remarkable feat in Qualifying for the Beijing Olympics, being a track cyclist in Ireland has considerable draw backs as there is no indoor track (Velodrome) in Ireland. Did had to train and race virtual all over the world to achieve his dream of competing in the Olympics.

David finished 6th overall in the individual pursuit competition and 6th in the world rankings in the Individual Pursuit in the 2007/08 season and with 18 places going in the Olympics, it was a complicated qualifying process, but he eventually won the right to be an Olympian by getting the first reserve place, which was 19th.

The individual pursuit is a 4km race against the clock, its 16 laps of the 250m velodrome (indoor banked track). David’s times improved from a national record he set of 4 minutes 29 seconds in November 2007 to where it is now at 4 minutes and 20 seconds in the space of six months, which was only 2 seconds off the world champions time for the gold medal.

David has trained specifically with the aim of not only been competitive but wants to go a few steps further and win a medal, he believes with the new technological developments in equipment and clothing that they have made in the last few weeks and having really good form that he could pull of the unthinkable and win a medal..

Here’s hoping he can from www.marreytrainingsystems.com
