The Mighty Deerstalker
Kicking off the Detail season in style on 21st March, The Mighty Deerstalker is quite possibly one of the most outlandish running events in the calendar. Established in 2007 and now a cult classic, 1500 runners will assemble at the Oldest stately home in Scotland for this devilish challenge. With distances at 5km (ish) and 10km (and a bit), there’s room for varying levels of fitness; but with a climb directly up the front of a rather intimidating Scottish Borders mini-mountain, freezing winter river crossings and peppered with obstacles along its route, the ‘Stalker is no ordinary 5 or 10km. Especially given that a large proportion of the field are sporting Tweed apparel. So get along to www.themightydeerstalker.com and enter a world of tough running, oblivion partying, hilarious fancy dress and incredible derring-do in equal measure.
Gael Force West
65km of epic multi-sport adventure on the wild west coast of Ireland. Entering its fourth year, Gael Force West will see the largest field of multi-sport competitors ever assembled descend on the fantastic small Irish town of Westport for its annual outing across some of the most dramatic scenery in the land. So popular has Gael Force become, entries have doubled and sold out every year. So if you’re looking for fresh air, rugged West coast terrain and 1500 companions with which to enjoy it, then get your entry in early! www.gaelforcewest.ie

Detail Events 2009: Bring Adventure to Life.
A joint venture from Men’s Health magazine and the Rat Race, the inaugural MH Survival event landed with a bang in Nottingham last October. 1000 solo challengers lined up to conquer a 10km urban assault course with an obstacle thrown in every km, featuring wrecked cars, the British Army, Nottingham Forest football stadium, some very wet bits, some slighty scary bits and a monumentally high wall to scale as the sting in the tail, just before the finish line. Spreading its wings to 3 cities in 2009, the Series will take on a “Tri-nations” theme so national pride will be at stake, alongside the personal challenge. This event sold out last year so get along to www.mhsurvival.co.uk and sign up for event updates to make sure you don’t miss the boat. Entries open April 2009 for 3 events in October 2009.
