After last year’s sell out success the ROAR is coming back to Achill this September 11th 2010.
This event was the first of Ireland’s one day adventure race events to offer an entry level sports and the more extreme challenge of the expert course to be done either solo or as part of a 3 person relay team. The expert course is either a 800m swim or 2400m Kayak in Keel Lough followed by a 15km beach and mountain run taking in the summit of Minaun (662m) and then a 45km cycle including the famous Atlantic Drive costal route. The distances for the sport option are approximately half that for the expert course but with less climbing both on foot and bike.
The Achill event is set to attract the top adventure racers and tri-athletes in the country as the penultimate event in the 5 race National Adventure Race Series.
Confirmed attendees include recent Gaelforce winner Padraig Marrey form Ballinrobe, 3 time Gaelforce Winner Peter of Farrell who won the Achill Roar in 2009 and John Caffrey who is current Adv Race Points Series leader along with Mayo’s Derval Devaney who is a firm favourite after the recent storming Gael force victory.
