Achill Island to be overcome by adventure seeking junkies
The inaugural Achill Roar multi-sport event will take place on Achill Island this coming Saturday 12th September.
This event is aimed to cater for both experienced and lesser experienced sports people and also those facilitate those with a specialist discipline such as running, biking, swimming or paddling.
The Sports Category will consist of a first stage with a 400m swim Or a 1300m kayak followed by a 8km run and a 22 km road cycle whilst the Expert category distances and terrain are approx double that.
The event is fully subscribed and the action will commence with the Expert Solo and Relay teams starting at Keel beach at 1000hrs whilst the Sports Solo category action will take commence at 1200hrs.
Post race prize giving will take place at the Achill Head Hotel at 2100 hrs on Saturday night.
The entry list includes both men's (Peter O Farrell) and women's (Mary Mulchrone) winners from the recent Gale force event.
The local challenge to O Farrell is expected to be very strong with both Padraig Marrey and Colm Staunton sure to feature prominently.
